Mild Tremor Hits Samar Provinces
Tacloban City (PNA) – A mild tremor measuring 4.9 magnitude on the Richter scale jolted some parts of Eastern Samar and Northern Samar on Friday afternoon, but there were no reported damages.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported that the epicenter of the earthquake with tectonic origin was located in San Policarpo, Eastern Samar.
San Policarpo Mayor Conrado Nicart III said in a mobile phone interview that the ground shaking was only mild.
“Per assessment of the local disaster risk reduction and management council, there was no damage reported within our municipality,” Nicart said.
The earthquake occurred at 4:02 p.m.
Phivolcs said the tremor was felt at intensity 1 in Palapag, Northern Samar.
Palapag Mayor Manuel Aoyang said the ground shaking was very minimal.
