Fair Weather in Luzon; Moderate Rains in Visayas, Mindanao
(PNA) — Rains are expected to continue in most parts of Visayas and Mindanao on Wednesday due to a low pressure area (LPA) embedded along the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), according to Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
In an interview, PAGASA weather forecaster Aldczar Aurelio said that as of 4 a.m. Wednesday, the LPA was spotted 240 km east of Maasin, Southern Leyte (10.2ºN, 127.0ºE) embedded in the ITCZ.
Aurelio said the LPA has slim chance to intensify into tropical cyclone and is expected to dissipate in the next 24 hours due to poor circulation.
Aurelio said the state weather bureau continues to monitor it and once it intensifies into a tropical cyclone it will be locally named “Jenny”, the 10th tropical cyclone for this year and first for this month.
He added due to the presence of LPA and ITCZ it will bring cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and isolated thunderstorms over Visayas, Mindanao and province of Palawan.
Aurelio said except for isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening, fair weather will continue to prevail over the rest of Luzon including Metro Manila.
In its advisory, PAGASA said light to moderate winds blowing from the northeast to southeast will prevail over Luzon and coming from the southwest to west over the rest of the country. The coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be slight to moderate.
The state weather bureau also did not issue a gale warning as the fisherfolk are safe to venture into the seas. (PNA) JBP/CLTC
