PHL Duathlon, Triathlon Members Grab Titles in NDC

Philippine women’s duathlon member Mirasol Abad and Philippines triathlon member John Leerams Chicano grabbed the women’s and men’s elite title, respectively of the National Duathlon Championships at Lantaw restaurant in South Road Properties (SRP) on Sunday.

Abad, 30, completed the 10 kilometer run- 40 kilometer bike-5 kilometer run in 2:24:35 hours to rule the women’s elite, followed by Mischelle Gilbuena in 2:30:18 and Elona Louise Villacin in 2:43:43.

“The race here is very challenging compared to the other races I have joined in the country,” said Abad who won the 2012 Dalaguate off-road duathlon in Mantalungon, Dalaguete town in southern Cebu.

In the men’s elite, Chicano clocked 1:56:30 to win. He was followed by Robeno Javie who finished in 1:57:25 and Joey Delos Reyes, who had a time of 1:59:45 for third.

In the sprint junior division, Chobie Duenas captured the men’s elite title after clocking 50:15 followed by Gabrielle Allen Santiago (53:15) and Lloyd Ompad (1:01.45).

In the distaff side, Jelsie Sabado won the women’s elite after clocking 1:03:34 followed by Mercy Issa Priagula (1:08.49) and Jacqui Rossee Lamparero (1:12.09).

In the mini sprint category, Lauren Justine Plaza won the girls division after crossing the finish line in 45:54.00. She was followed by Aaliyah Ricci Mataragnon (46:17) and Pia Francesca Suarez (49:46).

In the boys division, Brent Valelo won by two seconds over Dwight Galolo. Frederic Albert Chiongbian came in third.

In the super tri kids event the other day, the Cuyos brothers from Consolacion dominated in their respective age groups.

Eight-year-old Xisco Dion ruled the 8-and-under age group after completing the 200-meter run-1 kilometer bike-200m run in 4:57 minutes.

Rafael Inigo Jopson came in second with a time of 5:29. Haile Marcel Cases came in third in 6:19.

The older Cuyos Xeemon Sage topped the 9-10 age division after finishing the 400m run-2 kilometer bike-400m run in 7:58.

Justin Christophe Yu finished in 8:29.00 for second, while Andre Castanares came in third with 9:35.

Winning the girls division were Ezrah Beatrice Campo (8:12), Jeanna Mariel Cañete (8:58) and Mikele Katerina Jopson (9:09). (PNA) CTB/EB/MP/SSC
