Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma Saturday night thanked Cebu’s media for using their “gifts” in community service.

“God gave you the gifts. We’re grateful you use these gifts in the service of the community,” he said during the awarding ceremony of the 17th Cebu Archdiocesan Mass Media Awards (Camma) at the SM City Cebu Cinema 1.

“Thank you for making a big difference toward giving hope, toward giving joy and meaning to life. Thank you very much for making Cebu what it is now,” he said.

He also urged everyone to do “good things.”

“Yes, this is an imperfect world but there are many good things we can do than just curse the imperfection, than just shout at each other,” he said.

The Camma, organized once every two years, aims to encourage media practitioners in print, television and radio to spread God-centered messages and Christian values.

Camma was launched in 1991 and was held annually until 1998.

Organizers also paid tribute to Msgr. Trinidad Silva Jr., who started the search as former head of the Cebu Archdiocesan Commission on Social Communication.

Mgsr. Augustin Ancajas, the newly appointed chairman of the commission, said Camma has become a venue for church leaders, religious lay and members of the academe to monitor the outputs of different media outlets in Cebu. (PNA) CTB/EB/SSC
