Waves Destroy Houses in Talisay
At least five houses in the coastal areas of Talisay City were destroyed when big waves hit the area last Sunday night.
Vince Monterde, head of the city’s Disaster Preparedness Team, started assessment on the damage brought about by the big waves that hit barangays Poblacion, Dumlog and the neighboring areas.
Initial report said that as of midnight Sunday, three shanties along the shoreline in Sitio Litmon, Dumlog, were totally wrecked and another Sitio in Poblacion also suffer the same from the merciless waves which started going stronger at past 10 pm Sunday.
Affected residents had to move their belongings to safe areas while others tried to save what was left of their nipa huts.
Mayor Johnny delos Reyes arrived in Litmon to assess the damage while policemen and rescue teams were deployed to help the affected residents. Delos Reyes had advised residents to evacuate to Talisay City Sports Complex, but no one did.
Monterde said the assessment aims to know if the city would have to declare a state of calamity for the release of needed funds.
