Ukraine Requesting PH for Zelenskyy-Marcos Talk, PH No Response Yet
Embattled Ukraine has been requesting an official talk between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. since Marcos’ president-elect days, to no response since then, according to a Ukrainian diplomat.
This is according to Charges d’Affaires of the Embassy of Ukraine in Malaysia Denys Mykhailiuk, who said in an online press briefing that since the initial request, Kyiv has been following up twice a month through the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), with the Philippines seemingly not giving a response in the seven months of requests from the embattled European country.
Mykhailiuk said the answer Kyiv received was that the request is “under consideration.”
Kyiv has been hopeful that Manila co-sponsors Zelenskyy’s peace plan that he outlined before the United Nations.
Manila co-sponsoring the peace plan will mean that the country actively participates in the drafting of the plan and the execution of preparations needed “to achieve the goal set by the plan.”
Zelenskyy’s peace plan includes points such as the restoration of Ukraine’s territorial integrity as how it was after the country before the Russian invasion of Crimea in 2014, the punishment of Russia for their invasion through the creation of a tribunal, and the further implementation of sanctions, among others.
Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, in what it called a “special military operation” to “denazify” Ukraine. (GFB)
