Turkey is Now Called “Türkiye” at the UN
It’s not every day that you see a country rebrands itself — the Republic of Turkey is now called “Türkiye” at the United Nations (UN) for now.
The UN acknowledged the name change as soon as they received the request letter.
Turkey launched the rebranding campaign last December to best encapsulate the Turkish people’s culture, civilization, and values.
Turkey’s head for media and communications for the president Fahrettin Altun has posted a video on Twitter promoting the country’s rebranding.

While there are countries that add “Republic of” or add other words in their country’s name, Türkiye is not the only country that changed its name over the years.
According to a list from www.gov.uk , the Kingdom of Swaziland changed its name to “Eswatini” in 2018.
Burma was changed to Myanmar in 1989, while Sri Lanka was previously called Ceylon in 1972.
Thailand also changed its name from Siam in 1939. (ASC)
