Task Force Apprehends Boxes of Blasted Fish
(PIO Cebu Province) — The Cebu Provincial Anti-Illegal Fishing Task Force (CPAIFTF) of the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office, in coordination with the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO), intercepted a truck loaded with dynamite-blasted fish during their market denial operation at Barangay Estaca, Compostela yesterday.
The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) found 11 boxes of sardinella species or tuloy at 70 kilos per box positive of blast fishing. The cargo truck was heading to Barangay Pasil from Barangay Mahawak, Medellin.
“This is just a normal result of faithful and continuing efforts in implementing RA 10654 known as the The Philippine Fisheries Code of 1998”, said PENRO head Atty. Chad Estella. Administrative fine is set at P5,000 per kilo based on Provincial Board Ordinance 2012-05.
After securing clearance from the Provincial Veterinarian’s Office, confiscated boxes of fish were brought to the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) and to Gasa sa Gugma in Mabolo, Cebu City.
Meanwhile, the apprehended fish carrier was brought to the Provincial Capitol for proper disposition.
This will be referred to Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Adjudication Board for appropriate action.
