Synthetic Rice from China Not Far from Entering Palawan — NFA
(PNA) — The National Food Authority (NFA) here is on strict monitoring mode against the supply of rice that comes into Palawan following reports that fake Chinese rice supplies have entered the country.
NFA-Palawan Manager Edmundo Enrique said that now that fake rice has entered the Philippines, it is not impossible that it would also reach the province.
But he admits, however, that monitoring would be a challenge considering that not all rice supply passes through the NFA.
Enrique said their task can only be eased if the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) and the Bureau of Customs (BOC) will also strictly monitor every vessel that carries rice supply to prevent the synthetic ones from getting to Palawan.
He called on the public too, to be vigilant against fake rice, and not to buy them. If they see any being sold, Enrique advised for them to be told immediately for the proper conduct of actions.
On June 30, the NFA conducted undisclosed market inspections following reports that fake rice have entered the country and are being sold in public markets in Davao City. (PNA) CTB/CARF/ATB/EBP
