Sinulog Venue Still at SRP, Cebu Contingents Pulls Out
Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama said that this year’s Sinulog Showdown will push through at the South Road Properties (SRP) despite the calls for the transfer of the venue.
“So much have already been done and we will not stop,” Rama said.
This comes after the concerns of the contingents regarding the state of the venue of the Sinulog Showdown.
Talisay City Mayor Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas aired his sentiments regarding the SRP as the venue for the Sinulog Showdown.
Gullas said in a Facebook post that the venue is not ready for the participants.
The Talisay City contingents who have practiced their blockings at the SRP experienced worse conditions as rain fell during that time.
“Kani tanan, akoy nagsakit paras atoang mga constituwenti kay di gyud lalim ilang maagian intawn kon pugson nato ni.
Ang ilang safety ug health mao gyuy atoang top priority on this matter.
I am hoping that Mayor Michael Rama will listen to us regarding the SRP venue, maau unta ebalik lang sa Abellana kay successful raman ang Sinulog sa Kabataan didto,” Gullas said in a Facebook post.
After the incident with the Talsiay contingent in SRP, Garcia ordered her mayors to pull out of the Sinulog Showdown at SRP as for many concerns regarding the venue.
“SRP can no longer be an option. If that is the prerogative of the city of Cebu, they insist on holding the Sinulog Showdown at the SRP then all of the 8 competing contingents, together with one guest contingent where I will be dancing will be pulling out this Sinulog Showdown this Sunday, and that is final,” Garcia said.
However, if Cebu City changes its decision and transfers the venue for the showdown to the Cebu City Sports Complex, the province’s contingents will participate.
“If however, there should be a change of plans and eventually the showdown will be held at the Abellana grounds then with much joy and with all passion, all of us will gladly join the Grand Ritual Showdown at the Abellana Grounds,” Garcia said.
The province of Cebu has eight contingents, including a guest contingent, Consolacion Town, where the governor is also a participant.
Meanwhile, Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes and Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan heed the call of Governor Garcia to pull out their contingents due to the raising concerns about the venue. (ASC)
