Registry Of Deeds-Danao City Distributes Land Titles
Seventy free patent agricultural titles last January 22, 2015 at the Covered Court, Brgy. Cogon Cruz, Danao City., as part of its 2nd Danao City Land Title Distribution.
Leonides Martel, City Environment and Natural Resources Officer of Danao, said these titles were the outcome of the public land survey project of the LGU with Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) 7 in 2008.
Recipients of the land titles were from Brgy. Cogon Cruz and Brgy. Guinacot.
Siblings, Bebiana (85) and Benedicta (76), both heirs of a certain Pedro Mata, expressed their gratitude to Danao City Government and DENR 7 for assisting them in securing a title for the pieces of land they have been paying for since 1986.
Martel reminded the recipients that they couldn’t loan or sell the titled agricultural land,withinfive (5) years from issuance, unless the land is reclassified as residential.
Some 1,614 titles are still with the Registry of Deeds- Danao City. Another batch will be released for distribution in February at Brgy. Binaliw.
WilfredoLee,DENR 7Asst. Regional Director, challenged the DanaoLGU to continue working on public land titling and increase the percentage of titled public lands from the present 20%.
DanaoSangguniangPanglungsod Member, Roland Reyes,supported DENR’s challenge. According to Reyes, securing land titles isimportant in coming up with a land use classification. Danaois currently working on its land classification. He added that businessmen consider land titles and approved zonesas important factors in investment.
Provincial Cadastral Council member Alma P. Sibonga, together with the Public Land Titling Team of the province,witnessed the said distribution. Other offices present were DENR 7, CENRO-Carmen and the Foundation for Economic Freedom.
It was on June 2015, whenthe Cebu Provincial Government entered into a Memorandum of Partnership Agreement (MOPA) with DENR 7 on Public Land Titling. The province is coordinating with DENR and the pilot LGUs (Danao, Consolacion, Carcar, Boljoon, Balamban, Tuburan and Tabuelan) to ensure smooth implementation of land titling programs thru systematic adjudication.
Barangay Nangka was chosen by Danao City as a pilot area for their systematic adjudication project.
