Reggae Vibes

Facebar Music Lounge presents a pre-valentine event with Reggae Vibes this February 12, 2015 Thursday at 9:00pm onwards. The event will feature top Cebu reggae bands New Zion, Bambu Spliff and Junior Kilat. Tickets are priced at P50.00 each.

Junior Kilat remains one of the top reggae bands in Cebu. The group was formed in late 2000, and is named after the revolutionary hero in Cebu, Pantaleon Villegas or Leon Kilat. According to Cebuano legend, Kilat or Kidlat had lightning swiftness and miraculous powers that came from his amulet or “anting-anting.”

Junior Kilat takes their cue from such diverse influences like Lee Scratch Perry, Sly & Robbie, Eek-A-Mouse, Prince Far-I, Yoyoy Villame, Max Surban and cartoon themes like the Teletubbies and Scooby Doo. They play a mix of different genres that has reggae at its roots. Like beat-oriented reggae, dub and dancehall with Visayan lyrics, humor and punches.

Bambu Spliff is a high energy eight piece group that has been together since early 2003. Time and time again, BambuSpliff sets the stage and proceeds to burn it down with their original material that breathes the smoke of reggae.

The band has recorded 2 indie albums which were released in Cebu and some other parts of the country. Part of the success of the band relies on their mutual respect and understanding of each other’s musicality.
