Rama, ABC Support Performance-base Honorariums

Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama agreed to the suggestion of his ally barangay captain over the distribution of additional monthly City Hall honorarium to all barangay officials shall be based on their performance.

San Roque Barangay Captain Lediore “Boy” Miranda said during the next meeting of the members of the Board of Directors of the Association of Barangay Councils (ABC) he will propose a resolution about it.

Miranda has observed that despite the continuous granting of monthly City Hall additional honorariums to all barangays officials, on top of their honorariums received from their respective barangays, there are still several barangay officials who are very lazy.

“Diri lang daan sa akong barangay mga lima ka konsehal ang mga tapolan nga motunga lang sa barangay panahon sa sesyon,” Miranda said.

During the last Christmas and New Year celebrations, Councilor Dave Tumulak, who presides the Local Disaster Risk-Reduction Management Council, asked the barangay officials to strictly enforce the ordinance that regulates the sale of firecrackers.

The existing ordinance prohibits the sale of firecrackers outside the South Road Properties (SRP), but it was not strictly implemented by the local officials.

Mayor Rama and ABC President Philipp Zafra both agreed that the proposal of Barangay Captain Miranda is good because it can encourage the barangay officials to work hard so that their monthly City Hall honorarium will not be reduced.

The city is granting P5,000 additional monthly honorarium to each of the 80 barangay captains, P3,000 to each of the barangay councilmen and P2,000 to each of the barangay treasurers and secretaries.

Rama and Zafra have the same stand over the issue that while they supports to the suggestion of Miranda, but there should be a proper guidelines to avoid speculations that it is being done because of politics.

“Kinahanglang ayuhon g’yud na kay katahapan unya ta nga kadto’ng gipang-ibanan sa ilang honorarium gipanggukod tungod sa politika,” the mayor said.

Zafra said the ABC Board will discuss the matter during their next meeting.
