PRC Aids Covid-19 Affected Areas in The Visayas
As the whole country was forced to close almost all business establishments during the lockdown, people also lost their jobs and their way or living.
Visayas, especially in Cebu, has had the unfortunate label of being a hotspot for COVID-19 a couple of months which placed the region back in lockdown, resulting to many not being able to earn a living.
To help alleviate people’s woes in the area, the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) distributed a P42 million Multi Purpose Cash Grant (MPCG) assistance to 8,820 families in Cebu City, Lapu-Lapu City, Cordova, Westerm Samar and Leyte.
“Our kababayan need our help not only to alleviate them from their dire situations, but to redeem themselves and dignity,” said PRC Chairman and CEO Senator Richard Gordon.
Yesterday, he personally visited Barangay Luz in Cebu City to personally hand over the P3,500 cash grant to benificaries.
“Etong perang to galing to sa mga partner natin sa buong mundo, para to sa mga kababayan natin na nawalan ng trabaho, ng livelihood nitong panahon ng pandemya,” Gordon added.
The total target of the MCPG Program in Cebu Province is the 3000 families in 15 barangays, while the other 500 families are living in 4 barangays in Lapu-Lapu City and Cordova.
PRC has been consistent in granting cash aid to people who have been greatly affected by the pandemic. PRC, in partnership of International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), recently handed MCPG to the COVID-19 affected families in Manila, Mandaluyong, San Juan, Antipolo, Cainta and other pandemic-stricken places.
