Arm yourself with the right equipment: No matter how perfect the view, a poor quality camera can ruin a picture. That doesn’t mean you have to buy an expensive digital SLR – you can use your smartphone. Location, location, location: Get outside and capture the cityscape or your urban surroundings. You can easily make a location more interesting by mixing up your angles. Try pointing your camera up or down – different angles can alter the tone and perspective of the photo.

Rise and shine: The “magic hours” to shoot photos outdoors are an hour after sunrise and an hour before sunset. When the sun is low it produces softer, more flattering lighting that will add depth and character to the image.
