PCOO Sec Spends Holiday in Bohol for 2014 ‘Bayani Challenge’

Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Herminio “Sonny” Coloma Jr. visited on Wednesday the province of Bohol to grace the opening of ‘Bayani Challenge’ 2014 in Tagbilaran City.

The activity was also simultaneous held with the yearly observance of Heroes Day or ‘Araw ng Kagitingan’ which was also observed by the Boholanos.

The Bayani Challenge was officially opened in Bohol to show that Boholanos are ready to stand up as heroes even during the natural calamities and any kind of disasters brought by the worsening of times.

To prove their courage, the province has volunteered to launch the Bohol Bayani Challenge.

President Benigno Aquino upon knowing this big activity to be handled by the Bohol provincial government immediately sent Coloma to spend a little time with the Bohol officials on his behalf.

The Bohol Bayani Challenge was officially launched inside the Carlos P. Garcia Sports Complex in Tagbilaran City. Headed by Gob. Edgar Chatto, the activity was attended by all employees of the Bohol provincial government, city, national government agencies, non government organizations(NGOs) and the civil society.

Prior to the formal opening of the Bayani Challenge, a Bohol Bayani ‘Challenge Walk’ was participated by the different sectors of society.

The converging points were earlier identified as Plaza Rizal, at F. Roc and Tagbilaran City Pier, where every participant was already in the area as early as 3:00 pm. With a theme “Walang Iwanan,” this year’s Bayani Challenge was also held in the 12 provinces to include Aklan, Antique, Bohol, Capiz, Cebu, Eastern Samar, Iloilo, Leyte, Negros Occidental, Palawan, Samar, and Zamboanga.

The Bayani Challenge in Bohol was conducted in connection with the on-going housing construction, meeting with little children, health missions, clean up drive, school building repairs and tree planting.

However, this will be continued to be observed within 9 weeks starting April 12 until June 12, when the country will celebrate the ‘Adlaw sa Kaugalingnan’ or Independence Day.

The prominent NGOs such as Pilipinas Natin, supported by Gawad Kalinga, the biggest “bayanihan” will serve 5 million families within this year. (With Press Release)
