Patents Reveal Apple Creating Own Game Controller
With Apple investing heavily in gaming with Apple Arcade, the tech giant aims to double down on iOS gaming as the company’s latest patents reveal its plans to introduce a game controller.
Patently Apple has uncovered patents relating to game controllers that have been granted to Apple by both the US Patent & Trademark Office and the European Patent Office over the course of the last two weeks as the first patent was published on March 31, with the second one being published on April 10.
The patents suggest that the game controller was still in experimental stages, with the illustrations showing multiple types of controllers paired with iPhones and iPads.
Apple might have even taken several notes from Nintendo’s Joy-Cons, as illustrations also show two separate controllers that attach to both sides of a device, and seem to work in both portrait and landscape orientations.
This will not be the first time Apple dipped its toes in gaming peripherals, as Twitter leaker @L0vetodream said in 2020 that Apple worked on a joystick but never released a final product.
However, with Apple Arcade being one of Apple’s core offerings as the company is now shifting focus to subscriptions, a game controller might be released soon. (GFB)
