NNC 7 Conducts Training for LNEWS-FNS Areas
The National Nutrition Council Region VII conducted a two-batch Refresher Course Training for Local Nutrition Early Warning System – Food and Nutrition Security (LNEWS-FNS). The first batch was done last 10 – 11 November 2022 in Cebu City and was attended by the members of the core group and reps from the sentinel barangays of Buenavista and Pilar, Bohol and Carmen, Cebu. While the second batch of the training was held in Tanjay City, Negros Oriental and was attended by representatives from Alcantara, Cebu, Bais City, Negros Oriental and Dalaguete, Cebu on 24 – 25 November 2022.
LNEWS-FNS is a form of monitoring and analysis of important information that may foresee a possible crisis such as a food shortage or health problems in the LGU and its nearby areas. The COVID-19 pandemic and the 2022 national elections both had an impact on many of the local nutrition committees covered by the program, which resulted in a rapid turnover of nutrition workers at the barangay level. The local nutrition implementers were able to reintroduce the survey questionnaires and review the guidelines of interviewing.
There was a total of 39 participants who attended the first batch of training and 27 participants in the second batch which consisted of members of the local nutrition committee LNEWS core group and barangay enumerators. Through this training, NNC 7 looks forward to these LGUs to revitalize the capacity of the local nutrition workers, especially at the barangay level. (ND II Franz Cassandra R. Ontina, RND)
