NDRRMC: 23 Persons Dead, 99 Hurt During Holy Week Observance
Manila– The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported on Sunday that 23 people died while 99 others were hurt in various incidents that occurred in 11 regions of the country during the Holy Week.
NDRRMC said that as of Sunday, a total of 36 incidents were monitored in Regions I (Ilocos), II (Cagayan Valley), III (Central Luzon), IV-A (Calabarzon), IV-B (Mimaropa), V Bicol), VIII (Eastern Visayas), X (Northern Mindanao), XI (Davao), National Capital Region (NCR), and Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).
Of the 23 reported fatalities, 12 were involved in vehicular accidents on April 16 — five in Libmanan, Camarines Sur; two in Santiago, Ilocos Sur; two in Sariaya, Quezon; one each in Bani, Pangasinan; Bacoor, Cavite; and Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental.
NDRRMC said the drowning victims were: two in Sariaya, Quezon; one each from Narvacan, Ilocos Sur; Aglipay, Quirino; and Cabagan, Isabela (April 17); Manaoag, Pangasinan; Maragondon, Cavite; Ternate, Cavite; Tabuk City, Kalinga; and Nasugbu, Batangas (April 19).
One person died due to fire incident last April 17 in Binangonan, Rizal and another one due to a shooting incident last April 19 at Nagtipunan, Quirino province.
In Catbalogan, Samar, 11 persons were hospitalized due to carbon monoxide poisoning, the NDRRMC said.
Meanwhile, NDRRMC also said that the Philippine Coast Guard monitored a total of 37,104 outbound passengers and 35,467 inbound passengers as of Sunday in connection with the activation of “Oplan Ligtas Biyahe: Kwaresma 2014.” (PNA) SCS/CLTC/PJN
