Music Review: Teetan
Teetan launched its album on March 15, 2014 at The Chillage. The album’s 12 songs are all written and performed by Christian Linaban with Kerryl Demeterio as the sound engineer. In collaboration with: Luis Canete Jr. (Bombs Away, Twins, Mania); Cindy Gonzales Kujat (Vivus, Third Ear); Don Kris Arago (Twins, Mania); AJ Chiongbian (Untold); Ariel Llanto (To Be Counted); Chester Dagus (Mania). The album is under the indie label, Bomba records.
The album is first of all provocative. The album’s inlay covers of monochromatic and blurred pictures of an unknown woman or maybe women give you that impression. There is no clue and no recognition of who they are, and that’s how the artist introduce himself.
The album starts with, “Bombs Away”, which is one of my favorites. The lyrics are dark and funny or was the artist serious about the lyrics? Hmmmm…
“Twins”, is also another favorite. The tune, the lyrics and the instruments they all just fit right for this one.
“Oras na para sa Gubat”, is also one of the top songs for the album. The song truly represents the gloominess and danger of the whole album. Maybe, just maybe, so you would have a motivation to visit the artist’s soundcloud page. “Samok” is also a good song but it is not part of the album. This song sounds different as it relies more heavily on guitar riffs.
Overall, Teetan is a unique album in the Cebu music scene. It is some of the few artists composing under the electronica/industrial rock genre that is giving the music scene some needed variety and quality.
It is also a dangerous album as it is not something you play on a stressful day of traffic as it can really raise your blood pressure. However, it is good music to perk you up, especially if you feel like attacking some problem in the day.
The album gets you ready for war.
On a side note, I have seen the artist perform live twice already but the one I am hoping for and excited about is that they perform the songs in the album form live. That is something all fans should look forward to.
