Manila (PNA) — Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas II said the Liberal Party (LP) is supporting for the enactment of the Freedom of Information (FOI) bill and Anti-Dynasty Law proposal.

“As a member of the party led by (Transportation and Communications) Secretary Jun Abaya, our president, and our chairman, President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, I must say that the Liberal Party is committed to the approval of Anti-Dynasty Law and Freedom of Information Law,” Roxas said during his attendance at the Koalisyon ng Mamamayan Para sa Reporma (KOMPRe) conducted in Ateneo de Manila University during the celebration of Nation Heroes Day.

He explained that the LP support radiating upon the two major proposals for them to be enacted was directly from the President himself as the chairman of the ruling party.

“This is the guidance given to us by the President, that’s why its (LP) support is all out and will be on its way to be processed in the Congress,” he added.

The DILG Secretary said that part of strengthening the reforms and fighting corruption in the government drove President Aquino to hard-press the members of his party to help him push for the FOI and Anti-Dynasty measures.

“FOI has been passed in the Senate since then, but is still pending in the House of Representatives. If FOI will officially be a law it will preclude officials of government with no fear of doing anomalies,” Roxas explained.

Once the FOI enacted into law, the public can access government transactions, including information and documents of bidding, procurement and awards.

On the other hand, Roxas said the proposed Anti-Dynasty Law will cease the personality oriented or “kamag-anak” incorporated in government.

The DILG chief expressed confidence that the guidance given by the President to the party proves his sincerity to strengthen the transformation in the government and to remove the culture of “kamag-anak incorporated”.

“If we are determined to fix our government, we need these proposed laws to make our democracy and accountability balanced,” he said. (PNA) lgi/CLTC/DSMM-RBT (OJT)
