Love and Passementerie: Jojo Martinez’s Bridal Collection
Bringing the advocacy to revive and preserve the art of crochet and the livelihood it had sustained, a grand launching and fashion show will be held at Marco Polo Plaza Cebu on August 11, 2016 at 7 pm.
This is organized by renowned dressmaker and designer Jojo Martinez in partnership with Zonta Club of Cebu II, a member of Zonta International who advocates for the advancing of the status of women worldwide.
As how it is called, “Love and Passementerie: A Bridal Collection by Jojo Martinez” will be showcasing bridal gowns applied with crocheted motifs through Passementerie (a decorative trimming or edging on clothing). As how Jojo Martinez put it, the art of Passementerie is indeed considered as the ultimate application of crochet.
Highlighting the potential crochet (a handicraft in which yarn is made up into a patterned fabric by looping yarn with a hooked needle) has in the art of Passementerie, fifteen bridal gowns will be showcased during the fashion show.
After which, a short documentary will be screened presenting Martinez and Zonta Club of Cebu’s effort to preserve the art of crochet and their advocacy to provide a livelihood program for many women.
During the show, a raffle with exciting prizes will also be given away. These include a round-trip ticket to Palawan from Air Asia, a pre-nup package from Cuckoo Cloud Concepts, an invitation suite layout from Pretty in Print and a wedding gown from the collections.
Essentially, the cause of the launching seeks to create a market in the world of weddings – addressing the decreasing market of crochet, the diminishing of the skill and the latter as means of livelihood like it used to before.
