Lapu to Host Coastal Clean-up Day
Lapu-Lapu City will host the 26th International Clean-up Day on Friday through a “scubasurero” event in its coastal areas.
Several divers from all over the province are expected to attend Friday’s event, which kicks off at the beachfront of Crimson Resort and Spa.
Fr. Tito Soquino, president of Knight-Stewards of the Sea, Inc. (Seaknights) said at least 20 of their licensed divers are participating, as part of their advocacy to help preserve the marine environment.
Soquino said the coastal part of Mactan needs to be given regular cleanups because of the increasing population in the area. In the past clean-ups several sacks of mixed wastes–plastic, rubber materials, fishing gear among others–were gathered from Mactan’s underwater.
The organizers are expecting to gather at least 100 divers from different organizations and even from nearby resorts.
