‘Frozen’ Director Apologizes to Parents for the Song ‘Let It Go’
“I’ve gone from, ‘Thank you,’ to, ‘Sorry!’
Filmmaker Jennifer Lee at first would feel elated when parents would come to her and tell her that their children sang “Let It Go” – the hit soundtrack of Lee’s movie “Frozen”.
But now, Lee is apologizing to parents whose children are still singing that same song 12 months ago, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
In the report Lee said : “A year ago, I’d meet people who, when they found out who I was, they’d say, ‘Oh, we love the songs! We sing them all the time,’”.
“Now they’re like, ‘Yep, we’re still listening to those songs,” Lee said.
In 2013, “Frozen” grabbed an Oscar for best animated feature with worldwide gross at $1.27 billion.
Nevertheless, Lee was still amazed by the film’s global impact on young girls, despite their refusal to let go, report said.
Lee revealed that she used “Frozen” sisters Anna and Elsa, as “strong female lead characters,” to counter bullying.
Lee said “I was bullied a lot as a kid, too, so we try to look at the world like Anna and Elsa do — how they question, ‘Is who I am OK?’ — but always manage to be true to themselves.”
