Davide Won’t Help the 10 Suspects Nabbed in Dalaguete, Alcoy
Gov. Hilario Davide III yesterday declared that he will not be giving any assistance to the family of the 10 suspects who were arrested by the authorities in the mountain barangays of Dalaguete and Alcoy.
The family of one of the suspects came to his office yesterday to seek for help, but Davide said it was he who called up the attention of the Cebu Provincial Police Office upon knowing that armed groups were extorting money from local farmers there.
“They are accused. They have to get their own lawyers. These criminal activities in the mountain barangays have been going on for quite sometime now,” he said.
Davide said two or three months ago, local farmers came to him to report of the alleged extortion which they suffered from these criminal groups.
“I sought the help of (CPPO director Noel) Gillamac. Kining operations nila was the product of a long plan. They’ve also been getting reports from the mayors there,” the governor added.
Last weekend, police arrested Hermigildo Capala, Erwin Amandoron, Esteban Salonoy, Alvin Coronel, his father Mario Coronel, Vicente Asinjo, Randy Belda, Michael Manriquez, Lucino Quevedo and Timoteo Amaca. Some of them are relatives of barangay officials and barangay officials themselves like Manriquez and Amaca who are both barangay councilmen of Jolomaynon and Nug-as, Dalaguete. The suspects are linked to the many crimes (rape, robbery, killing and others) in the area and the neighboring towns.
