After President Rodrigo Duterte declared a state of public health emergency on Monday, the Department of Education implemented safety measures to avoid the spread of the said virus.

Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Leonor Briones said that the request to suspend classes in the National Capital Region (NCR) from March 10 (Tuesday) to March 14 (Sunday) has already been approved by the President after a briefing on the public health risk also assessed by the Department of Health (DOH).

Briones also stressed out that the safety measure will only be effective if students, parents, and local governments will do their part in ensuring everyone’s safety. Students should stay home and avoid crowded places like malls, markets and more.

DepEd’s regional fields and schools are directed to facilitate steady teacher-student/parent communication to provide necessary lessons to continue the process of learning.

However, DepEd pledged to contribute in any way they can and shall conduct close consultation with DOH and IATF to help contain COVID-19. (MLC)
