Celebrities Running for Seats in 2022 Elections
The Philippines became the first constitutional democracy in Asia after the declaration of the country’s sovereignty as a state and the proclamation of the First Republic of the Philippines on June 12, 1898. With the Philippines enjoying a democracy, anyone with the right qualifications may run for elected seats in the government.
This means even individuals from the entertainment industry, with the right qualifications, may run for posts.
Here are some celebrities vying for government seats this upcoming May 2022 National Elections:
Raffy Tulfo
Veteran broadcaster journalist, anchor, media personality, and host Raffy Tulfo, which has become known as “Idol” due to his widely popular show “Raffy Tulfo in Action,” is now running for a senatorial spot in the May 2022 National Elections.
Tulfo is seeking a senatorial seat to fix the “broken system in government,” he claims and this is the reason why his public service is necessary for ordinary Filipinos.
Nora Aunor
Philippine film icon Nora Cabaltera Villamayor, more known as Nora Aunor, is also planning to run for a seat in the government this coming election.
The award-winning actor is looking to win a post as a representative of the NORAA Party list or National Organization for Responsive Advocacies for the Arts.
Nora Aunor was one of the celebrities who spoke against the government-mandated shutdown of ABS-CBN.
Tom Rodriguez
Tom Rodriguez is also running for a seat in the government this coming election.
The actor is the first nominee of the Anak Maharlikang Pilipino party-list group, which aims to represent the rights of construction workers.
Rodriguez, known for his roles in multiple free-TV shows such as “My Husband’s Lover,” is a product of ABS-CBN’s Pinoy Big Brother: Double Up, and is currently a talent of GMA. (GFB)
