Cebu to Be Out of Electricity for Weeks; NGCP, VECO, CEBECO Assure Speedy Electricity Restoration
After reports saying it will take around one month for electricity to be restored in Cebu, representatives from the Visayan Electric Co. (VECO), Cebu Electric Cooperative (CEBECO) and the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) assured that parts of typhoon-ravaged areas in the province will be restored within a week.
This development comes after Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia held a meeting with the said electricity companies along with NGCP urging them to hasten the restoration of electricity in the province.
Meanwhile, Cebu City mayor Michael Rama visited VECO headquarters for a meeting on the electricity status of Cebu city a day after typhoon Odette ravaged the city.
Rama also urged VECO to clear electrical posts that fell over during the storm.
VECO said that it is awaiting power supply from NGCP for the restoration of electricity in the city.
Moreover, NGCP said that they are yet to get the needed power supply from Leyte, which was also ravaged by typhoon Odette. The state-owned power company also said that they are continuously doing assessments as to the damage to its transmission towers. (GFB)
