BSP Launches P5,000 Lapu-Lapu Banknote for Mactan Victory Quincentennial
Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) and Quincentennial Commemorations in the Philippines (QCP) launched the P5,000 Lapu-Lapu Banknote and medal on Monday in commemoration of the 500th anniversary of the victory of Mactan.
The P5,000 banknote is the largest banknote in value the Philippines to date. The last time Lapu-Lapu was featured on a banknote was 40 years ago in a one centavo coin.
BSP Governor Benjamin Diokno said in a message in the launching of Lapu-Lapu’s P5,000 banknote and medal that the celebration is the opportune time.
“Now, more than ever, with the global crisis brought about by the pandemic, we need a stark reminder of our glorious past. Now, more than ever, we need our heroes to remind us of our heritage and inspire us to overcome whatever challenge comes our way as a nation,” Diokno said. (ASC)
