‘Amihan’ to Bring Light Rains in Luzon

Except for isolated light rains, most parts of the country will continue to experience fair weather on Thursday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

The state weather bureau said the northeast monsoon continues to affect northern Luzon.

The northeast monsoon or “hanging amihan” is characterized by the cold wind from China and Siberia that blows into the country from late October until mid-February. It is usually associated with the Christmas season.

For Thursday’s forecast, cloudy skies with isolated light rains is expected over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon while partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms will prevail over the rest of the country.

PAGASA weather forecaster Chris Perez said there is no weather disturbance seen near the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) which may affect the country within the next three days or until weekend.

He added the state weather bureau still expects one more cyclone to affect the country before the year ends.

The next tropical cyclone will be locally named “Nonoy”, the 14th tropical cyclone to affect the country this year.

In its advisory, PAGASA said moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast will prevail over northern Luzon and its coastal waters will be moderate to rough.

Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the northeast with slight to moderate seas. (PNA) JMC/CLTC
