Airline Fuel Surcharges to Go Down in September
Travelers will get a sigh of relief starting September 1 as the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) said in an advisory that fuel surcharges will be lowered to level 9, compared to the level 12 imposed currently.
CAB said in the advisory dated August 15, 2022, that jet fuel prices from the period July 10 to August 9 averaged at PHP46.73 per liter.
This corresponds to the level 9 passenger and cargo fuel surcharge matrix, the CAB advisory added.
Moreover, the level adjustment of fuel surcharge will effectively lower the fuel surcharge to a range of PHP287 to PHP839 per passenger for domestic flights, from the current domestic flight range of PHP389 to PHP1,137.
Meanwhile, the adjusted level will lower the international fuel surcharge rate to PHP1,284.40 to PHP9,550.13 from the current range of PHP937.39 to PHP7,044.27.
Fuel surcharge rates shall not exceed that of the level 9 rates.
“Airlines wishing to impose or collect fuel surcharges for the same period must file its application with this office on or before the effectivity period, with fuel surcharge rates not exceeding the above-stated level,” the advisory read.
Meanwhile, main airline players in the country welcomed the fuel surcharge adjustments, with echoing remarks saying that it will benefit travelers. (GFB)
