Selected members of the Basilan Communicators Network Inc. (BASCOMNET) and a team from the communications group of Isabela City government underwent three-day training on Basic Video Production Course for TV recently.

In partnership with the local government of Isabela City, the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) in Basilan initiated the hands-on training in collaboration with PIA- Region 9 and BASCOMNET.

At least 20 participants with basic and some with advance skills and knowledge on the technology were trained last March 20-22 at the Local Economic Investment Promotions Office in Isabela City.

Participants of the training included information and communications officers of the different departments in Isabela City LGU, Philippine Coconut Authority, Department of Labor and Employment, Department of Public Works and Highways, Nagdilaab Foundation Inc., Isabela Foundation Inc., and the 4th Special Forces Battalion of Philippine Army.

The course aimed  to train the participants on basic video-making and TV production to handle the task of producing content for cable and social media platforms and to serve as communication support to various government and non-government agencies in Basilan.

Dominic I. Sanchez, Rene V. Carbayas and Victoriano Villacruz of PIA- 9 were the resource speakers and trainers of the said course.

Speakers introduced the participants to the production process from the identification of topics, preparation of talking points/script, program clocking, and staffing.

They also  briefed them  on the production stage which includes the proper handling of equipment, the lights, sounds and cameras, and  oriented  them on the proper and appropriate set up for video production where a Kapihan-type of talk show was simulated in the training.

The participants were tasked to produce their own video that encouraged them to learn further on their own, demonstrate and encourage the practice of actual methods. They  recorded a 15-20 minute talk show based on the scripts they prepared.

Felipo David Malcampo, retired PIA ZAMSULTA Information Manager, was  the guest critique during the training who gave his comments and recommendations on how to further improve the outputs.

After the training, the participants are expected to practice their skills  and create their own stories in video format to report to the public the many government accomplishments and undertakings, and hopefully, engage the public for support.

From among the trainees, the Isabela City team has organized itself into a local TV crew that will commence the production of an envisioned TV show, starting with its local radio station DXNO-FM and  turning it into a teleradyo format soon.
