Communication for police operations in the far-flung areas in Cebu City will no longer be a concern after the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) received a new set of digital radio system from a Chinese donor.

CCPO Director Senior Supt. Joel Doria told reporters in an interview that this will now address their problem in communicating with their police force assigned in the mountain barangays.

He specifically made mention of their detachments in Agsungot, Sudlon, and Busay, where they previously encountered difficulty in reaching them due to the absence of mobile signal in the said areas.

Considering po na wala tayong signal ng cellphone at saka yung mga radio natin hindi nila kaya, ito pong dinonate nila are digital radio Hytera, very effective kahit na nasa mountain barangay tayo at saka nasa city. Kaya yun (Considering we don’t have any cellphone signal in the area and our existing radios do not have this capability, these donated digital radios with brand name Hytera are very effective, even if you are located in a mountain barangay or in the city. It is capable of that),” Doria said.

He added that this will help them in their internal security operation and monitoring in the mountain barangays.
He plans to give this to their mobile force company.
Doria together with Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Gen. Ronald dela Rosa received one set of the radio equipment from Winnie Chang of the Philippine Qi-Pao Cultural Association.
This consists of one digital trunking repeater, five units of digital mobile base terminal, and 20 units of digital portable terminal.
Doria said they have done a test on the equipment on Sunday and they were able to communicate with their policemen at Barangay Agsungot.
“Before, nahirapan tayo considering meron tayong detachment sa mountain barangay. Kung kailangan natin reinforcement, mahirapan tayo. Kapag may complain at tumawag tayo, mahirap din silang tawagan.  Because of this communication, mapapabilis ang ating serbisyo ngayon (Before, we had a hard time, considering we had detachment with the mountain barangay. If we needed reinforcement, it would be difficult. If there was a complaint and we called, it would be difficult to call them as well. Because of this communication, our services will be speedier now),” he added.
The turnover of the equipment was done during the launching program of the Malasakit Center at the Vicento Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) on Monday afternoon.
The occasion was graced by no less than President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and other cabinet officials.
