OCCR Launches Civil Registration Month

The Office of the Cebu City Civil Registrar formally started its month-long celebration following a motorcade and opening ceremony today February 1, 2018 Thursday at the Cebu City Social Hall.

With this year’s theme, “#napapanahongCRVS (Civil Registration and Vital Statistics)”, the office aligned series of activities as it celebrates Civil Registration Month for the entire February this year.

Present during the launching ceremony were staff from Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Regional Office 7 Central Visayas and PSA Cebu Province, Lapu-Lapu City Civil Registrar, Office of the Talisay City Civil Registrar, Mandaue City Civil Registrar and personnel from the Office of the Cebu City Civil Registrar (OCCR) led by Atty. Evangeline Abatayo.

In his inspirational message, Cebu City Councilor Sisinio “Bebs” Andales Deputy Mayor for Labor and Employment who represented Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña emphasized the important role played by Civil Registrar in nation building, citing that the city government has built a new building for OCCR to ensure a safe repository of documents.

Andales said that as legislator he passed Cebu City Ordinance 2449, entitled: “An Ordinance exempting indigent residents of Cebu City from the Birth, Marriage or Death Registration Fee, or Late Birth, marriage or Death Registration Fee imposed, and the payment of filing and certain fees collected by the Office of the City Civil Registrar on Correction or Changes of Records in the Civil Registry,” to help the less fortunate Cebu City constituents.

OCCR chief Atty. Abatayo also shared that various activities are lined up throughout the month-long celebration bringing their services closer to the people and for them to avail it for free right in their respective barangays.

During the opening activity, OCCR also launched the “Adapt a Family Program” which aims to help the Badjao Community in the city to have proper profiling and have their certificates.

“Civil Registry documents enables access to benefits such as Health, Education and Social Protection,” she emphasized.

On-the-spot Essay writing contest and on-the-spot Poster making contest were also conducted during the opening activity.

Abatayo also encouraged everyone to avail of the services of OCCR which will be conducted by cluster in the 80 Barangays comprising the City of Cebu. (Please see the photo for the complete list of activities and the respective venue.)
