PRO7 Gives 3 Hotline Numbers for Public to Report Crimes
As the war against illegal drugs and other crimes continue, the Police Regional Office (PRO-7) released three hotline numbers that the public could text or call to report suspected illegal activities in their surroundings.
The hotline numbers given were 0929-4783231, 0916-4932111 and 0942-7641609 to accommodate everyone who uses any of the three mobile networks.
PRO-7 Regional Director C/Supt. Noli Taliño said the hotline numbers under the Project Double Barrel, the anti-illegal drug campaign of the Philippine National Police, is a strategy to address the worsening problem of illegal drugs.
“The Double Barrel is a two-pronged approach where the upper barrel focuses on neutralizing high-value targets while the lower barrel concentrates on street drug level activities,” said Taliño.
Taliño said there will be focused teams to act on the high value drug personalities while these teams, that can stand alone, come from the police, the National Bureau of Investigation, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and the military.
The lower barrel approach addresses illegal drugs in the streets that should be dismantled by the different chiefs of police, said Taliño adding that inaction or uncooperative response from the local governments down to the barangay chiefs would be reported to the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG-7).
Although the Philippine National Police is given the top responsibility in the fight against illegal drugs, we need the support of the public for us to make headway in our campaign, said Taliño.
Taliño said the police have a copy of a drug watch list of personalities in respective areas as chiefs of police are mandated to neutralize these drug personalities in their areas with a timeline of six months.
“The President has given us a deadline of six months to eradicate illegal drugs,” said the PRO-7 chief.
But with limited manpower, he sought the public’s help by reporting immediately to the police using the hotline numbers any illegal drug activities in their area.
President Rodrigo R. Duterte has made the fight against illegal drugs a campaign slogan promising to end the problem in six months. (rmn/fcr/PIA7)
