(PNA) – Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Energy Efficiency and Conservation experts have committed on reducing energy usage by 45 percent through efficiency and conservation until 2035, the Department of Energy said Friday.

The 46th meeting was held from Aug. 31-Sept. 2 at the Marco Polo, Cebu City.

The Energy department said APEC experts would pursue the Energy Smart Communities Initiatives-Knowledge Sharing Platform to consolidate ideas, best practices, energy efficiency and low carbon projects, with the support from small transports, smart buildings, smart grids, and smart jobs and consumers.

The department said energy intensity would serve as the measure in determining the energy efficiency of each economy based on units of energy per unit of gross domestic product.

It also said that low energy intensities would likely be produced from highly productive economies with manageable weather patterns, use energy efficient appliances and equipment, apply energy efficient technologies in buildings and industries, utilize efficient mass transport system and fuel efficient vehicles and adopt energy conservation measures.

The department also said APEC economies were encouraged to support the development of ESCI-KSP in determining appropriate project proposals, which would address the remaining challenges in achieving the energy intensity reduction goal.

The government office further cited the APEC economies targets to reduce its energy consumption through adopting energy efficiency measures in different sectors, which will further reduce energy dependence on imported energy resources. (PNA) RMA/JLD
