Cebu Capitol to Build 10 Water Catchment Facilities
(PNA) — The Cebu provincial government will build at least 10 water catchment facilities in mountain barangays in eight towns, an official said.
Cebu Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (PDRRM) Officer Baltazar Tribunalo Jr. said these water catchment facilities will be installed in Dalaguete, Argao, Sibonga, Alcoy, Alegria, Consolacion, Tuburan and Barili.
Cebu Capitol spokesperson Ethel Natera said these areas were chosen because there are already heavy equipment in the area.
The cost of the water impounding facility ranges from PHP100,000 to PHP1 million.
Natera said a cash-for-work program for families affected by the mild El Nino will be implemented once construction starts.
Tribunalo sai the water catchment facilities will help farmers if the weak El Niño worsens despite the onset of rains.
He said the rains this month serves as an opportunity for the province and the farmers to save water through catchment facilities.
Tribunalo said farmers can use the rainwater if they experience shortage of water for their plants. (PNA) LAP/EB/EDS
