Silliman University (SU) is now connected to 70 million Filipinos, thanks to the connections provided by PLDT SME Nation.

At a recent ceremony held in Dumaguete City, SU, one of the country’s reputable universities and the oldest university founded by American Presbyterian missionaries, formalized its partnership with PLDT SME Nation to utilize the combined solutions and platforms from PLDT, Smart and Sun, for the connectivity needs of the campus and its personnel.

“One of the important thrusts of SU is to widen our relevance and reach. We want to reach a wider audience, and because PLDT SME Nation is partnering with us, it just falls into place. We are partnering with a group of companies that actually answers our thrust.” Prof. Jane Anette L. Belarmino, SU Vice-President for Development said. “With seamless connectivity to the Internet, we can maximize our productivity while on the go,” she added.

Mark Raygan Garcia, Director of SU Office of Information and Publications said, “Our partnership with PLDT SME Nation will facilitate high utilization of communication features at the best value for us. These connectivity solutions enable us to enjoy mobile browsing, and initiate e-mail exchanges, via our phones—at the best connectivity and rates possible.”

“PLDT SME Nation’s vision in technology and innovation is very much aligned with SU,” Smart Enterpise Area Sales Head  for VisMin, Ms. Hazel Amoyan said. “Our mobile platforms and solutions are very powerful communication tools that will enable SU to reach out to the members of their community. It is a great source of satisfaction for us to expand our partnership with SU,” Amoyan added.

Mobile solutions are the latest enhancements to the current partnership between the SU and PLDT SME Nation. SU currently utilizes PLDT SME Nation’s solutions that provide seamless connectivity to the entire university. This includes online enrolment, student online services like grades viewing and online payment, employee online services such as payslip viewing and grades encoding and submission, online public access to the library’s catalog, instructional laboratories, cyber library, and official school e-mail for students and employees. SU is also one of the early adopters of PLDT SME’s Nation’s a web-based group messaging service that allows the school to upload, manage and send customized information to all the members of its community. Students can send feedback and access school announcements, such as class bulletins, campus events, tuition fees, student grades and other information, including advisories during calamities.

“All these communication services provide assistance to all members of our community, not only in terms of critical information such as grades and payment history but also in terms of coordination, feedback, and crisis communication via wired and wireless technology,” Garcia said.
Silliman is transitioning to K+12 with all four tracks and is enhancing its academic curriculum for ASEAN integration. “It’s already a whole new ball game for us. We are confident that our partnership will enable us to become more efficient, more productive and more adaptive to change. We look forward to marking many more milestones with PLDT SME Nation,” VP Belarmino concluded.
