Bogo Mayor Wants National Projects Coursed through Provincial Government

Bogo City Mayor Celestino Martinez Jr. has suggested that all national projects should be coursed through the provincial government for a better coordination.

Martinez has asked the Cebu Provincial Development Council (CPDC) to make the request to President Benigno Aquino III.

“The Council should request the President that instead of passing the projects for unused funds to the Cabinet members, it should go to the region or province,” Martinez said.

He cited for example the current situation in which the Department of Public Works and Highways, which is in charge of construction or repair of national roads, is reportedly destroying good roads just so it can spend the funds.

“Good roads are destroyed to be replaced,” he said.

Earlier, Martinez had made this complaint during a consultation meeting with Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III and the Provincial Board in Bogo City.

He said the lack of coordination with the local government is not only ruining the good roads.

He noted that the DPWH does not also repair lighting projects as they are not part of the program of work.

Martinez said such projects should need consultation with CPDC, whose members include mayors. (PNA) SCS/EB/PJN
