Wow, I Didn’t Know That God Sings! Yes, God Sings for You and for Me!
Just this morning, as I flipped through my old and dusty King James Version of the Holy Bible—the dustiness is a sign that it has been sitting there in my library shelf for ages—I happened to randomly open what to me was a very beautiful, very intriguing, yet very revealing passage that truly touched my heart. My discovery of this Biblical passage which was so unassumingly located right there in the middle portion of the Old Testament gave me a pleasant surprise which, I must admit literally made my day. I would like to quote at length this cute little verse that reveals to me the playful, restful and compassionate heart of our God Who knows how to sing for us, Who delights to sing to us His song of love and Who knows how to rejoice in His loving care and concern for us his insignificant creatures.
Really? Kidding aside—does God really sing? Absolutely Yes!—if you believe the Holy Scriptures. Read Zephaniah 3:17. It says: “The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is Mighty; He will save, He will rejoice over thee with joy; He will rest in His love of thee, He will joy over thee with singing, He will rejoice over thee with much singing” (Authorized Anglican Version [KJV]). How wonderful to know that God saves us, loves us and rejoices over us; much more wonderful and inspiring to know and realize that He rejoices over us with His singing! He is a singing God and He sings over us, His lowly creatures—He comforts us when we need His overwhelming comfort by singing to us His songs of love! Indeed He sings for you and me, and for the whole of His creation!
I learned precious lessons early this morning during my morning devotions; that I need to read the Holy Scriptures more often to see for myself the true nature of our All-Merciful God and to be allowed through the agency of His holy Word some glimpses of His genuine attributes and character—that He is a joyful, playful and loving God… a singing God Who sings His songs of love, mercy and grace to all His creatures. The God portrayed in this verse by Prophet Zephaniah (Zeph. 3:17) is a far far cry from that bratty, petty, wrathful and vengeful God portrayed by senile clergies of established fundamentalist and extremist religions that peddle a twisted version of a God Who out of arrogance hurl typhoons, calamities, disasters and losses just to coerce people to toe-the-line with respect to their religions’ all too irrationally rigid and retrogressive understanding of morality and ethics.
Let me ask the readers of my present essay this probing question: which God do you prefer: the compassionate God Who sings to us His songs of love, mercy and grace or the wrathful God of bigoted clergies and fundamentalist preachers Whose only way of making people behave according to His whims and caprice is the childish “carrot-and-stick” approach of infantile rewards and punishments (golden harp in heaven or endless torment in hell)? As for me, I choose this loving and singing God of the Holy Scriptures and of Prophet Zephaniah; for it is so easy to love, to worship and to intimately relate to such a God. Frankly, I do not have any sympathy whatsoever to the petty and bratty idol-god version created by the moronic minds of power-crazed and influence-seeking religionists.
Wow, I didn’t know that God sings and that He is a singing God… but now I know that our God sings of love and mercy for me, for you, for one-and-all, and for all His creatures in the cosmos—and as for me, this wonderful revelation of our loving God Who sings to us His song of love is very redeeming and extremely liberating thought indeed!
