5 Tested Positive in Recent Capitol Drug Test

Five employees initially tested positive in the latest round of random drug test for Cebu Provincial Capitol offices held last week.

Of the five, four were found positive of shabu while one of marijuana. These results are still subject to a confirmatory test.

Sixty employees from the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office, Provincial Engineering Office and the Provincial Information and Communications Technology Office were subjected to the random drug tests held at the legislative building.

Of the 60 employees, 42 are from PENRO, 15 are newly hired employees of PEO and six are newly hired of PICTO.

CPADAC Executive director Joey Herrera revealed they have employed a new way of conducting the drug test today.

“We are now conducting random drug tests per office starting with PENRO. A new category also has been put up for newly hired employees starting with the newly hired from PEO and PICTO,” said Herrera.

Although CPADAC doesn’t have any suspicion of drug users in the said offices, Herrera said they conducted the said test to check on employees.

“This is our way of determining whether our previous drug tests have an effect on the employees because in the last two tests, nobody got positive. We hope it would stay that way,” he expressed.

Herrera also added that with the new category, CPADAC would know of any improvement in Capitol’s hiring standards.

“This is our way of knowing if our hiring processes have improved, that we are not just hiring anybody,” he said.

Herrera announced the drug test after the Provincial Government’s flag raising ceremony to prevent employees from evading the said test.

Appropriate actions are to be conducted on employees who are confirmed drug users based on the new test.
