40 Cebu City Village Chiefs Sign Covenant to Back PNP Anti-drug Drive
Some 40 village chiefs in Cebu City on Monday signed a covenant to support the campaign of the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) against illegal drugs.
The barangay captains signed the agreement at the Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 Multi Purpose Hall in Camp Sergio Osmeña, Cebu City.
The signing was witnessed by Cebu City Association of Barangay Councils president and Cebu City Councilor Phillip Zafra, Cebu City Police Office Director Senior Supt. Joel Doria and PRO 7 Director Chief Supt. Noli Taliño.
The covenant aims to maintain the village chiefs’ integrity and dedication to public service, “notwithstanding the allure of money and undue influence.”
It also aims to reduce the demand of illegal drugs through proper awareness and in neutralizing drug offenders with the support of the PNP and other law enforcement agencies.
Thousands of suspected drug personalities in Cebu City have surrendered since President Rodrigo Roa Duterte assumed office.
This was the result of the PNP’s Operation Tokhang, in which the police knock on the houses of suspected drug personalities and persuade them to stop their activities. (PNA) LAP/EB/SSC
