3rd Boracay Ati-atihan Fest Set Jan. 8-10

This famous tourism island is all set for its own version of Ati-Atihan Festival scheduled on Jan. 8 to 10.

Now on its third year, the Boracay Ati-Atihan celebration aims to allow tourist to experience the more famous Kalibo Ati-Atihan Festival.

According to Felix delos Santos, chief tourism officer of Malay, the 3-day event will highlight the traditional “sadsad” or street dancing along the White Beach to be participated by tourists, locals and representatives of various commercial establishments in the island.

A tribal street-dancing competition with participants from various secondary schools in Boracay will also be part of the event.

A fluvial parade of the image of Sr. Sto. Niño will also be held along the White Beach during the last day of the celebration.

Boracay is one of the six places in Aklan that holds Ati-Atihan festivals.

Meanwhile, this year’s Kalibo Ati-Atihan Festival is slated on Jan. 8 to 17.

Delos Santos said the celebration also aims to attract more visitors to the island.

In 2015, Boracay received a total of 1,560,106 tourists.

Of which, 769,560 are foreign tourists, 748,017 are domestic and 42,529 are overseas Filipino workers.(PNA) RMA/AJP/KVBERMEJO/LPT
