Youth from Europe Visit Cebu
Twenty youth delegates from the Netherlands and Belgium arrived in Cebu last July 10 to participate in the second run of the Multi-City Youth Xchange (MYX) program, and to explore and immerse with Cebu’s locals and different institutions.
MYX, a three-week youth exchange and immersion program, is being participated by twelve Dutch and eight Belgian delegates, accompanied by 6 adult leaders.
The program is being organized by the Young Heroes for Cebu (YHC), in cooperation with the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI), the Vriendschapsband Haarlemmermeer Cebu, (VHC), the City of Kortrijk, and the Cebu City Government.
YHC is an organization formed by Cebuano youth delegates of the Young Minds on Xplore (YMX) 3, the counterpart youth exchange and immersion program in Haarlemmermeer, the Netherlands and Kortrijk, Belgium anchored by RAFI last year.
The three-week stay of the delegates will require them to be exposed to several institutions in Cebu and their work, such as the Barrio Luz Livelihood Program, Don Bosco in Liloan, Missionaries of the Poor, SOS Village, Cebu Technological University-Barili Campus, Archival Ecohouse, Badjau Integrated Development Project of RAFI, FORGE Teenage Dreamers Home, and Seven Spirit. They will also take part in the building of three houses that VHC is donating to Gawad Kalinga, and participate in a medical mission in Barangay Guba and Barangay Adlawon, Cebu City.
Trips to Oslob for the whale-watching, Badian for Kawasan Falls, and Moalboal for the white beaches will complete their Cebu experience.
MYX, which started in 2006 under the name ‘Pinoy-Dutch eXplore’ and is currently in its second season under its current name, is a program within the sister-city relationship between Cebu City, Haarlemmermeer, and Kortrijk.
The program, previously handled by RAFI, is now being run by YHC under the supervision and guidance of the former.
