Youth, Citizens Wear Heeled Shoes to Honor Women

The National Youth Commission (NYC) partnered with the Cebu Provincial Government through the office of Provincial Board (PB) Member Miguel Magpale in supporting the women in the society through the recent “In Her Shoes” march.

The event involved some NYC volunteers, students, and concerned citizens who marched from Fuente Osmeña to the Capitol grounds wearing high heels. The event transpired to show appreciation for the women in society. “In Her Shoes” march emphasized how the women remain to be composed and beautiful beyond their civic duties.

“As sons, brothers, fathers and boyfriends, we will show our women that we appreciate them. It’s hard to be a woman. You wear a lot of roles. Let’s take an example of being a mother who is expected to take care of many things. What more if you are a working mother? Many working mothers work everyday wearing heels and riding jeepneys,” Magpale explained the advocacy’s goal, which is to build consciousness for the Filipino women to be empowered.

Magpale said that for the next year’s event, they will be more creative. They are also thinking of inviting more participants from the schools and universities around metro Cebu.

Assistant Secretary (Commissioner-at-Large, National Youth Commission) Jose Rafael Cruz also joined the activity wearing the same heels he wore from last year’s “In Her Shoes” celebration. He said they are looking for more locations to promote their advocacy. He also added that they are targeting and linking more institutions to participate in the future.

“In Her Shoes” is a simultaneous activity throughout the country. The march is also happening in La Trinidad, Benguet, Quezon City, Manila, and Davao City.

Representatives from Barangays Lusaran, Quiot, Taptap, and Lipata were also present during the celebration. Some students from the University of San Carlos, Cebu Normal University and Abellana National School also attended the activity.
