Yolanda Death Toll Now 5,670, Damage at P34 billion – NDRRMC
As of Monday morning, the death toll from super typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) continues to increase with recorded deaths now at 5,670 according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
The NDRRMC, in its update as of 6 am Monday, said 26,233 people were injured while 1,761 are still missing. Yolanda also destroyed 586,227 houses and damaged 590,310 more, the council aid.
The council said the super typhoon affected 2,376,210 families or 11,236,014 people in 12,075 villages in 44 provinces, displacing 888,253 families or 4,094,029 people. It added 44,906 families or 204,131 people are still staying in 1,031 evacuation centers.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMD) had cleared 70.192 cubic meters of debris, completing the clearing operations in affected areas, the NDRRMC update said. The MMDA reportedly turned over the clearing operations to the City Engineering Office and the Department of Public Works and Highways, the report said.
The NDRRMC reported Yolanda’s damage (as of Monday morning) was estimated to be at P34,366,518,530.67, including P17,333,367,534.29 in infrastructure and P17,033,150,996.38 in agriculture which includes damage to roads and bridges at P14,482,253,884.29.
Included in the damage to infrastructure are crops (P6.989 billion), livestock (P2.216 billion), fisheries (P5.964 billion), and other agricultural infrastructure (P1.651 billion).
