Yolanda Death Toll Now 3,982; Damage at P11.737B – NDRRMC
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Tuesday said the death toll from Super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) went further to 3,982 adding that Yolanda had displaced nearly two million people, and caused P11.737 billion in damage, Gma News Online said.
Th Online News reported NDRRMC saying, in its 6 am update on Tuesday, that aside from the fatalities, there are 18,266 injured and 1,602 still missing.
The national disaster council said Yolanda had affected 2,166,891 families or 10,047,652 people from 10,560 villages in 44 provinces. Of these figures, 89,785 families or 418,988 people are staying in 1,595 evacuation centers, Gma News Online reported.
The council also said Yolanda caused an estimated P11,737,153,892.92, in damage, including P1,297,925,115 in infrastructure and P10,439,228,777.92 in agriculture.
It added Yolanda has destroyed 295,590 houses and 301,650 others damaged, Gma News Online said.
The Online News added President Benigno Aquino III has been visiting affected areas starting Sunday and indicated he wants to see more efficient assistance by government before he returns to Manila.
Aquino on Monday said an investigation is conducted on the local government units’ handling of preparations and response to Yolanda, which slammed the Visayas region on November 9.
“That is a matter that is subject of investigation,” said Aquino in Alangalang, Leyte, when asked by reporters on whether the LGUs were prepared for Yolanda, Gma News Online report said.
