Officers of the Young Lawyers Association of Cebu (YLAC) visited Cebu City Hall for a Courtesy Call with Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama on December 4, 2013.

Headed by its President Marven Pañares, the group was formally welcomed by the People’s Mayor who used to be the President of YLAC way back in 1989.

The young lawyers asked Mayor Rama to be their guest and sponsor for the 34th Anniversary of YLAC comes December 8 this year which will be held at Casino Español de Cebu, located along V. Ranudo Street, this city.

Mayor Rama has accepted the invitation and had a question and answer portion during the courtesy call wherein the young lawyers threw their queries to the Mayor pertaining to various issues involving the Cebu City Government.

Asked about the city’s joint venture project with the Filiinvest in the South Road Properties (SRP), the Mayor has quickly answered that he will always stand for what is right and for the general welfare of the people.

The city’s chief executive has further said that, “I was there since 1992 when the SRP was created and it is design to generate Eighty thousand jobs 5 years after the reclamation project was completed but it is not happening now, it is owned by the people and the city is paying for it,” adding that the return of investments from SRP shall be utilized to improve the city’s basic services for the people, improve the drainage and traffic master plans, and disaster preparedness, among others.

“Why should you pay when you are not supposed to pay,” the Mayor also answered when asked about the Rallos case, citing that if you have to go deeper about the issue the claimants can never win. He adds that he already instructed the city’s lawyers to sue those who will hamper the general welfare of the Cebuano populace. (By: Greggy Jiggs P. Senados, PIO Staff)
