A Cebu graduate who pursued college studies as a working student topped the March 2016 licensure exams for mechanical engineers.

Marina Melendres Luchavez, 22, a graduate of the University of Cebu (UC) in Cebu City, placed first with a score of 91.60.

The university awarded her a brand new Toyota Wigo for her feat.

Incidentally, last year’s topnotcher was her boyfriend, Micah Arceño.

Luchavez said she was confident during the exam and inspired not only by Arceño, but also by five older siblings who studied mechanical engineering.

She was joined in the top four spots by fellow UC graduates Neil Ivan Jon Buquing Domingo, who placed second, and Jay Rald Lawas Quiachon, who placed fourth.

A total of 910 passed the exams.

“They bring honor and prestige to the school. I also congratulate the instructors and dean of the College of Mechanical Engineering for being the instruments for them to get to the top,” said lawyer Augusto Go, UC founder and president.

The university gave Domingo and Quiachon a check for PHP100,000 each as their reward.

UC Chancellor Candice Gotianuy also gave a car to the unnamed instructor who helped the examinees land the top spots. (PNA) LAP/EB/EDS
