Worker Buried in Mud, Rescued
A 52-year old worker was nearly killed after tons of mud collapsed and partially buried his body while he was constructing a concrete wall inside a private compound in Barangay Quiot, Cebu City at past noon on Wednesday.
It took for a few hours for the rescue volunteers to retrieve Cyril Mahinay and rushed him to a hospital where he is presently confined with some bruises in different parts of his body.
“Naabtan pa g’yud namo ang mao nga tawo nga nalubong pa sa lapok ang katunga sa iyang lawas. Ang iyang mga kauban maoy naghinay-hinay sa pagkuykoy sa lapok aron siya maugkat,” Alvin Santillana, operations chief of the Local Disaster-Risk Reduction Management Office, said.
Santillana said Mahinay and his companions cut the portion of a slope inside Genis Compound in Barangay Quiot for them to construct a concrete wall on it that will serve as boundary of the adjacent property, but the mud suddenly collapsed and partly buried Mahinay’s body.
It was believed that the soil collapsed at shortly 1 pm because of the heavy downpour in Cebu City and other parts of the province on Wednesday morning that was brought by the low pressure area.
“Ila man gud nga gisapsap ang yuta sa bahirig nga bahin utlanan sa pikas property aron tukoran nila’g koral mao nga kalit lang nahugno ang lapok tungod sa pagkahumok sa yuta,” Santillana said.
Mahinay remained conscious and was able to talk when he was retrieved and was brought to the hospital.
